How to choose a women’s retreat in the US

A good retreat is checked, not guessed. Seven things worth looking at before you pay a deposit — from group size to written terms.

1. Group size decides everything

Under 12 women feels intimate, over 30 feels like a conference. A circle of about 20 is small enough that everyone is seen and large enough to carry energy.

2. Who actually leads the practices

Ask two questions: who curates the retreat, and who guides each practice. If one person claims to do everything, the program usually gets thin.

3. What the price includes

The honest format lists lodging, meals, the program, and transfers in one place — and names what is not included, like flights. If you have to guess, ask before you pay.

4. The venue was visited in person

Photos lie; light, noise, and beds do not. Ask whether the organizer has slept at the venue. The answer tells you how the rest was prepared.

5. Terms in writing before any payment

Dates, price, deposit, cancellation terms — in a message or document you can reread. A serious organizer offers this without being asked.

6. Practices are invitations, not obligations

You should be able to choose your depth at every step, and resting should count as participation. Anything that pressures you to join is a red flag.

7. Real photos from real gatherings

Stock photos and AI renders are easy to spot once you look. Ask for photos and video from past retreats — an organizer with real history shares them gladly.

FAQ

How much does a women’s retreat in the US cost?

Most five-day small-group retreats in the United States fall between $1,500 and $5,000 depending on the venue, group size, and what is included. Always confirm what the price covers in writing.

Can I come to a retreat alone?

Yes — most women do. Good retreats build the first evening around meeting the circle gently, so arriving alone is the norm, not the exception.

Do I need yoga or retreat experience?

No. On a well-run retreat every practice is guided as an invitation and you choose your own depth of participation.

When should I book?

Small groups fill early — for a 20-person retreat, one to three months ahead is typical. A deposit usually holds your place while terms are confirmed in writing.
