What does Death mean upright?

Something is over. You probably know what it is, and you have probably known for a while. This card does not create the ending; it names the one already happening and asks you to stop negotiating with it. The kindness of Death is that it is clean. Half-endings, the friendship you keep on life support, the role you have outgrown but still perform, drain more than a clear break ever does. Let it finish. Grieve properly, keep what was genuinely good, and do not rush to fill the gap. New things need the space, and the space needs a little time to be empty.

What does Death reversed mean?

Reversed, the ending is being delayed. You are holding the door with your foot: rereading old messages, keeping the job three months longer, telling yourself one more conversation will change it. This is a normal and human position, and it is also expensive. Resisting an ending does not preserve the thing, it only stretches the worst part of it. Sometimes reversed Death shows the opposite, that the transformation is already done and you have not noticed. Check whether you are still mourning something you have in fact already outlived and left behind.
