Can you see a new moon?
Normally no. The lit side faces away from us, and the only thing to see is a dark disc crossing the sun during an eclipse, which is rare. The thin crescent people point at is already a day or two older than the new moon.
How many days after the new moon can I still act?
About three. The window is soft, and a ritual on the third evening reads the same as one on the first. Past that you are closer to the first quarter, which suits reviewing a start rather than making one.
What is a black moon?
The name for a second new moon inside one calendar month, the dark counterpart of a blue moon. It happens every two or three years and means nothing beyond being unusual on a calendar.
