Tiger's Eye: Meaning, Properties and How to Use It

Tiger's eye is the stone tradition gives to nerve that needs steering. It is credited with confidence that stays practical, with focus under pressure and with a protective watchfulness, which is where the name and the eye come from. Roman soldiers are said to have carried it into battle.

What tradition says

What is Tiger's Eye known for?

The silky band that moves across the stone comes from fibres of an older mineral replaced by quartz, which preserved the fibrous structure. Turn it and the light travels like a slit pupil. Most of it comes from South Africa. The lore reads the eye literally, as something that sees for you, and pairs that with a grounded, unsentimental character. It is the stone people recommend for money nerves and for standing your ground.

The practice

How do you use Tiger's Eye?

Wear it as a bracelet on the hand you write with for a week when your resolve keeps slipping.

Keep a tumbled stone where you handle money, the wallet or the invoice drawer.

Before a negotiation, run your thumb along the band once and decide your lowest acceptable number before you speak.

Honest noteThe original fibres were crocidolite, a form of asbestos, and that fact gets misused in both directions online. A polished or tumbled stone is fully replaced quartz and inert. The danger lies only in cutting, grinding or sanding it dry, which nobody should be doing at home anyway.

Two more

What does Tiger's Eye pair with?

Stones are kept in small sets rather than alone, and these two are the usual company for this one.

What it is kept for

What do people reach for Tiger's Eye for?

The same stone, read through the thing you came here with.

Questions

What else do people ask about Tiger's Eye?

What do the different colours of tiger's eye mean?

Gold is the standard one and carries the confidence reading. Blue, sold as hawk's eye, is the unoxidised material and gets a cooler, more observant job in the tradition. Red is usually heated gold stone and reads as pure drive. The mineral is the same throughout.

Is tiger's eye safe to wear every day?

Yes. It is quartz, hard and durable, and a bracelet will survive years of wear. Brief water is fine, salt and long soaks are not, because the fibrous layers can lift. Some people find it too stimulating to sleep beside and move it off the bedside table.

Two ways on

One stone is a reminder, a library is a map.

A hundred and four stones and sixty four everyday uses, sorted the way a week arrives. If you came here through the body rather than the mineral, the seven chakras are the other way in.
