Crystals for Grief
Rose quartz, smoky quartz and amethyst are the three stones people reach for in grief. None of them shorten mourning, and none are meant to. They are something to hold when words run out, a small weight in the hand on the days when the loss arrives again without warning. Grief is not a problem to be solved, and a stone is simply company.
The six
Which six stones does tradition name for this?
Six, not sixty. Each one carries a different reason, so you can pick the reason that sounds like your week rather than buying the whole row.
Rose Quartz
The traditional stone of tenderness. In mourning it is held less for love of another person than for permission to be gentle with the one who is left behind.
Smoky Quartz
Named the grounding stone. People keep it in a pocket on the days when grief makes the floor feel unreliable and the body needs something heavy and ordinary to hold.
Rhodonite
Lore calls it the stone that tends old wounds. Its black veins running through pink are why people keep it: the damage stays visible and the stone is beautiful anyway.
Amethyst
Kept by the bed through the sleepless stretch. Grief and insomnia travel together, and amethyst carries the long association with quiet nights and an unhurried mind.
Moonstone
The stone of cycles. Mourning does not move in a line, and a stone that stands for phases gives you a way to accept a good week followed by a terrible one.
Lepidolite
Traditionally the calming stone of the set. It is soft and easily scratched, which makes it an honest companion for a season when you also need handling with care.
The practice
How do you work with the set?
There is nothing to do correctly here.
Keep one stone in the pocket you reach for without thinking.
When the grief rises, close your hand around it and let it be the thing you hold instead of the thing you say.
Some people keep a stone that belonged to the person they lost.
That counts more than any list.

Questions
What else do people ask about this?
Is it wrong to want a stone instead of talking to someone?
Not at all. Grief has hours when talking is impossible and something in the hand is all you can manage. A stone is a companion for those hours. It is not a substitute for the people who love you, or for a grief counsellor when the weight will not lift.
How long should I carry it?
As long as you want to, and not a day longer out of duty. Many people notice one morning that they left the stone at home and did not miss it. That is not a betrayal of anyone. It is simply what healing looks like from inside.

Two ways on
A need is one door in, a stone is another.
Six names, and behind each one the tradition that gave it the job and the plain limit of what it cannot do. The body reads the same set differently, and the seven centres are that reading.
- 104
- stones, each with what tradition says
- 64
- everyday uses, six stones under each
- 7
- centres, the same set read through the body
