Crystals for Psychic Protection
Obsidian, charoite and black kyanite are the three named for psychic protection, with nuummite, tourmalinated quartz and sugilite completing it. This is the esoteric end of the protection family and worth stating plainly. Nothing measurable is happening. The reason the rituals persist is that they give shape to a real experience, which is leaving an encounter carrying something that was not yours and not knowing how to put it down.

Charoite
Swirled violet, found in one place in Siberia and nowhere else. Lore gives it to transforming fear instead of blocking it, which is the gentler branch of this practice.
Black Kyanite
Fanned black blades, called the broom. It is the classic cord cutting stone, swept downward around the body as a way of declaring a connection closed.
Nuummite
Three billion years old, black with hidden fire. Practitioners give it to protection you keep quiet about, worn under clothes rather than displayed.
Tourmalinated Quartz
Clear quartz shot through with black tourmaline needles. It is read as filtering rather than blocking, keeping the contact but losing the residue.
Sugilite
Deep purple and protective in the soft sense. Associated with staying open hearted in environments where closing down feels like the only option.

How do you work with the set?
The traditional practice takes two minutes.
Hold the stone, name the encounter you are coming back from, and say out loud that it is finished.
Wash your hands afterwards, a step every version of this ritual includes.
Then put the stone down in the same place.

No, and we will not pretend otherwise. What is real is the effect of a closing ritual on your own state, which is why the hand washing step survives in every version.
Do these stones need cleansing more often?
By tradition yes, weekly, and the practical version is a wipe with a cloth. Obsidian and charoite do not like long soaking, and black kyanite splits along its blades.
