Crystals for Chakra Balancing
Red jasper, carnelian and citrine open the standard chakra set, running upward by colour to lapis lazuli and amethyst. The colour matching is a twentieth century Western arrangement rather than an ancient one, which is worth knowing. As a practice it works the way a body scan works: it gives attention a route and seven places to stop.
The six
Which six stones does tradition name for this?
Six, not sixty. Each one carries a different reason, so you can pick the reason that sounds like your week rather than buying the whole row.
Red Jasper
The root of the set, placed lowest. Its reading is the body, the rent and the floor under your feet, the practical things that have to hold before anything else does.
Carnelian
Placed at the sacral point, tied to appetite, creativity and wanting things. People notice this one most when they have been running on duty for a long stretch.
Citrine
The solar plexus stone, read as will and self trust. It sits where people describe the physical knot of nerves before something they have to do alone.
Green Aventurine
The heart stone in most sets. Green rather than pink here, since the traditional colour correspondence for this point is green and the pink version came later.
Lapis Lazuli
The throat stone, read as saying the true thing. Its long history with scribes and scholars makes it a fitting choice for the point about honest speech.
Amethyst
Placed at the brow or the crown depending on the system, and it is the one stone nearly every version of the set agrees on. Lay it above the head, not on the face.
The practice
How do you work with the set?
Lie down and set the stones from the hips upward, lightest touch possible.
Spend one slow minute at each, moving attention rather than moving stones.
If a point feels like nothing, that is data too, not failure.
Twelve minutes is plenty.
Collect the stones from the top down, so the practice has a clear end.
Read here as a language of symbols. Medical, legal and financial questions belong with a professional.
Questions
What else do people ask about this?
Is the colour system authentic?
Partly. Chakras come from Indian tantric traditions, but the rainbow colour scheme and the matching stone set were assembled in the West in the last hundred years. It is a useful modern map, and calling it ancient is simply not accurate.
Do I need all seven stones?
No. Most people find one or two points that actually mean something to them and work there. A full set bought at once usually ends up in a drawer, while a single stone kept for the point you keep returning to gets used.

The needs that sit next to this one.
Two ways on
A need is one door in, a stone is another.
Six names, and behind each one the tradition that gave it the job and the plain limit of what it cannot do. The body reads the same set differently, and the seven centres are that reading.
- 104
- stones, each with what tradition says
- 64
- everyday uses, six stones under each
- 7
- centres, the same set read through the body
